Pre-Production Forms (LO3)

  Call Sheet – sometimes called a daily planner, this document is used to ensure that on each day, everyone involved in the production process knows what is happening and what their role is, ensuring that the production is successful.  Listed on this document will be the personnel needed, the resources required, the location they are needed and when.  By using a daily planner or call sheet, there is little room for people to be confused and for aspects of the production to go wrong.

Past Paper (LO2)

Target Audiance (LO2)

A target audience is the intended audience or readership of a publication, advertisement, or other message catered specifically to said designed audience. The term "socioeconomic target audience" describes a particular set of people who a company or organization wants to connect with and benefit from their socioeconomic level. This can include things like earnings, education, employment, and location. For instance, while a bargain retailer may target a lower-income clientele, a luxury vehicle manufacturer may do so. Understanding the socioeconomic makeup of the target market is crucial when creating a marketing strategy. With the aid of this data, a company may design goods, services, and marketing initiatives specifically suited to the wants and needs of the target market. For instance, a business aiming to reach low-income consumers would provide inexpensive goods and discounts, whereas one aiming to reach high-income consumers might emphasize exclusivity and luxury. SWOT Analysis (LO2)

Room to work with what is shot. Designer brand = big budget  Weaknesses 8-14 is a big age group, with many changes between those ages. High end = expensive, limits the audience. No specific gender = broader audience to cater for. Opportunities because of its designer footwear, opportunity to liaise with high-end retail. A brand can afford rights to licensed music and could provide an opportunity to liaise with large record labels.

Mood Board (LO2)

Mood board advantages  Allows team and client to explore and make judgements about the overall aesthetic (the 'look' and 'sound' of the product) Good judgement at this phase can help the product to appeal to its target audience and to connect to, or stand out from, competitor products (e.g. a luxury car advert that has a recognisable 'luxury car advert' feeling in its choice of imagery and text; a website for a new bar that 'feels' more quickly and characterful than those for others in the same town.)

Mind Maps (LO2)

Advantages Allows for the development of ideas. Can begin to explore which ideas are most fruitful - which opens up constructive possibilities and which don't. Can begin to explore various ways of developing ideas. Identify ways that ideas might connect and combine.

Tools To Use (LO2)

Blue-sky thinking (uncountable) (idiomatic)  Thinking that is not grounded or in touch with the realities of the present; open-minded thinking . A mood board is  an arrangement of images, materials, pieces of text, etc., intended to  evoke  or project a particular style or concept. A mind map is  a diagram in which information is represented visually, usually with a central idea placed in the middle and associated pictures arranged around it. What Is SWOT Analysis? SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) analysis is  a method for identifying and analyzing internal strengths and weaknesses and external opportunities and threats that shape current and future operations and help develop strategic goals .

Interpreting Client Brief (LO2)

 Implicit - Something that's not directly stated but is suggested.   Open - Open to interpretation, some freedom for you to make decisions. Constraints - A limitation or a restriction to work within. Explicit- Something that is said and in detail must be met.

Types Of Brief (LO2)

A Contractual Brief is  a legal document which is created between an employee and a client . The layout of a contractual brief is very easy and clear to read, allowing the client to complete their details without confusion. A Negotiated brief is where the media company may possibly have a disagreement or a possible issue with the assignment/brief that they have been given and then negotiate with the client on how they can work their way around it while still sticking to the guidelines of the brief. Tender Briefing means  a meeting (the details for which are specified in the Reference Schedule) that may be held by or on behalf of the Agency to provide information about the RFT  (Request for tender) and the Tendering Process . Practice Questions (LO1)

1) Users need to upload a photo.  Three months to get the app completed. Users should try on outfits.  Appeal to 16-30-year-olds. (4) 2) Photographs that users upload might be wrong, meaning that the app will also need to  filter out bad images.  Three months is short, so the product must be followed by the deadline; otherwise, the app will not be completed as advertised. (2) 5)  Data protection of the customer. Would need to ensure that no personal information of a customer can be viewed by another user to prevent fraud or identity theft. (3) 6)  Ensuring the imagery is ethical.  If the app doesn’t show a range of cultures, then target market members may be put off. The British Board of Film Classification is a non-governmental organisation founded by the British film industry in 1912. It is responsible for the national classification and censorship of films exhibited at cinemas and video works released on physical media within the United Kingdom.  Legal issue – something identified within the project that could potentially lead to breaking the law if not addressed.  For example, a risk assessment is required for any filming. Ethical issue – something identified within the project that could lead to complaints if not addressed.  For example, a lack of diversity in an audio-visual product could lead to complaints that hurt the company involved. Finances (LO1)

Revenue: A term used within a business to refer to income (money coming into the company). Profit: A term used within the business to refer to the money made after paying for costs.  All money exceeds the costs.   Revenue Stream: Ways in which the company is making money. Sponsorship – Money is paid by other organisations for their brand to be associated with final media production.  This can involve placing a brand name or logo on the final product, such as telling the viewer who a programme is sponsored by. Sponsors may also receive other benefits for their support (e.g. free access to or copies of the product). Crowdfunding –   The product or idea is promoted via social media networks (such as Kickstarter).  It is then funded by public contributions. Contributors may be offered some benefit for their contributions (such as early access or exclusive material). It can be used for projects or ideas conceived by amateurs or professionals. Analysing the brief (LO1)

  x Video: Appeal to the target audience of 8-14 Parental consent for actors Secondary appeal to parents – they’re the ones with the money to buy the shoes Appeal to a wide audience in a short time frame (20-40 seconds) Risk assess the location (especially as young actors are involved) Quick 5-week turnaround. Website: Has to reflect that advert – advert has to be done first. Easy to use/navigate Appeal to young people Potential Problems: Designer footwear for kids – advert has to be high-end, but also be fun for children. Young actors are potentially not as reliable – may slow down the shoot 5 weeks is a quick turnaround for something like this. Has to appeal in some way to adults who will be spending the money. Can’t show dangerous things that children might imitate. Targeting and established brand at a whole new audience. Crowded market. Only target audience detail is age – have to appeal to gender, ethnicity, etc.
